THE TIMES:

‘in quite a different league…astonishingly assured debut performance…a really substantial piece of writing…the language is rich…wrapped up in a compelling narrative…she speaks lyrically and powerfully.’

WHATSONSTAGE:

‘Sabrina Mahfouz firmly impacts on the audience. She delights with impressive style of delivery…punchy, dry humour and piercing poetry…’

THE HERALD: ‘a fearlessly exuberant little show’

EXEUNT MAGAZINE: ‘striking imagery…elegant and tender’

FRINGE REVIEW: ‘A raw talent with huge potential…quite extraordinary’

THE GUARDIAN: ‘magical stuff…immense detail…nerveless and tight…I’d happily see this again’

THE SCOTSMAN: ‘wordly-wise insights into human nature…unforgettable and very funny…astonishing…like Steven Berkoff’

THE NEW YORK TIMES: ‘Dry ice is an Underbelly highlight’

Dry Ice – the first time

Dry Ice had a sell-out preview run at New Wimbledon Studio in April as part of their Fresh Ideas season. THANK YOU so much to everyone who came, listened, clapped and filled out feed my back forms. This was all hugely appreciated. Massive big can’t do the belt up thanks to the following people without whom that run would no way no way have been possible:

Roland Ellis and Andrea Cuius – who designed the amazing voice reactive lighting installation pictured above and below – each bulb was connected, coded and designed by them to react to a particular frequency of my voice (and who I found through Dean McNamee after he had an installation at THE HOSPITAL CLUB’s CiR event in March); High Tide Genesis Lab who developed the show at the baby stages (special thanks to Natalie Ibu); Anne Chmelewsky for her magical original music score; Prasanna Puwanarajah and Riz Ahmed for their delightful directing skills. Next stop – New York!

New York New York

I recently went to New York with Old Vic New Voices TS Eliot UK/US Exchange. It was great. Lots of people are saying awesome. I’m trying not to but it’s hard.

The Exchange is a brilliant program that takes 7 of the best emerging writers, directors and producers the UK has to offer, as well as over 20 of the hottest young actors, to New York to share their wares with the yanks. We got to meet senior staff at all the places we admire and aspire to. Then they do the same a few weeks later. I will be bringing them to The Hospital Club so do come and say hello. You will spot them as they all have very white teeth.

I was lucky enough to work with the following superstars for our New York showcase (at The Vineyard Theatre): Director Oliver Rose , Producer Sara Doctors and actors Lesa Gillespie, Heather Johnson, Patrick Myles and David Mumeni.

The play I wrote was a ten minute piece set in an East London launderette on the day of the Royal Wedding, where people had a lot more to talk about that Kate’s dress. It was funny. If you’d like to see it at a washing machine near you do get in touch.
