a surprise at the ballet

Last night I went to enjoy the Christmas ‘10 present of one of best friends: a ticket to the première of the Royal Ballet’s Romeo & Juliet at the O2 Arena.

Due to the context and the size of the performance space, as a ballet aficionado I was expecting a circus-like performance, with the audience cheering like in a stadium and chewing their pop-corns…

It wasn’t the case: the performers -Carlos Acosta and a surprisingly fresh and strong Tamara Rojo- were absolutely stunning in the leading roles and 12000 people followed their beautiful dancing and kissing for 3 hours, in extraordinary respectful silence and great empathy.

…I did go for “a circus-like performance…”, but I surprisingly found myself and every single spectator, embracing once again the magical ritual of theatre.
