Riccardo Buscarini works on a very special project

Tue
07

Riccardo is currently working on a very special project hat has just won a prize, Premio Prospettiva Danza 2011 in Padua/IT.

Riccardo says “Affected by osteogenesis imperfecta, Chiara had to be operated several times. Each of her scars reminds of a peculiar event of her life, so that she would be able to reconstruct her biography from the memories emerging from her own skin.

Chiara reflects on her own body as a link between past and present, family and self.

From this reflection, the project Family Tree: a series of works created each time by a different artist, called to collaborate with Chiara.

I elt very proud in being asked to create the first fragment of the series, volta.

With this work we won Premio Prospettiva Danza 2011 in Padua/IT, we were asked to perform in 4 festivals and to expand the project”

Curated by George Henry Longly

Private View: Thursday 9 June, 6-9pm

Exhibition: 10 June – 23 July

Matthew Smith, Epping Forest, 2010 (from an ongoing archive of Images of Mud)

BISCHOFF/WEISS is pleased to present GLAZE, a group exhibition curated by British artist George Henry Longly.

The exhibition presents an orchestrated selection of objects which, when brought together, proposes to question the power of context, both implicit and constructed, as a filter for determining and influencing our way of looking.

The exhibition will include works by; Am Nuden Da, Carl Andre, Dan Coopey, Edward Cotterill, Timothy Davies, Nicolas Deshayes, Tomas Downes, Ryan Gander, James Iveson, Kate Owens, Sara Mackillop, Helen Marten, Eddie Peake, David Renggli, Matthew Smith and Martin & Youle. Through their work, each confront the very physicality of the gallery space; walls will be directly drawn upon, objects will be placed in direct relation with one another and each spatial plane; floor, wall and ceiling will be employed.

Sabrina Says….

This is the first fantastic image from the photography and poetry project I’m currently working on with wonder photographer Zoe Buckman and super stylist Molly Roe. The series is based on a selection of my poems. As a crazy trio of creatives we pick it apart and come up with a visual story to tell that is initially inspired by the story of the poem. The one above is inspired by ‘If I Were A Rose’.

If I were a rose

I’d probably want redder petals

And a lover to rub the thorn from my side

If I were a rose

I’d probably want the rain wetter

And a personal patch of breeze to keep me dry

If I were a rose

I’d probably expect my stem to stay wilt-free

And for my life certainly not to end in a petrol station

Another piece in the series, ‘Say It’ , is viewable on http://www.zoebuckman.com. The project is on-going and will be exhibited in London and New York in 2012.

Jonathan Entwistle – First Feature

Mon

Jonathan has been finalising a development deal for his first feature, after a lot of hectic backwards and forwards it is now sorted and he is allowed to talk about the details!

It’s produced by Rebecca Mark-Lawson and Stink (big Commercial agency) and written by Claire Wilson. She was a Star Of Tomorrow with Jonathan for Screen International in 2010, they have been working on it since last summer. It’s going into development in July 201, and they are hoping to shoot in August 2012. It’s big news, because in times of cuts and losing the Film Council, for young filmmakers to have such a shot at a Feature is unheard of. It’s really exciting and a major career step for Jonathan.

I’ve shot a few videos with the band A.Human. Here’s the most recent one we did last year. It was shot on location at the James Taylor Gallery just off Well Street in Hackney. It was a mad day and all the guys did so well learning the dance in time. Enjoy…

Sabrina Mahfouz : Dry Ice

Mon
23

Dry Ice had a sell-out preview run at New Wimbledon Studio in April as part of their Fresh Ideas season. THANK YOU so much to everyone who came, listened, clapped and filled out feed my back forms. This was all hugely appreciated. Massive big can’t do the belt up thanks to the following people without whom that run would no way no way have been possible:

Roland Ellis and Andrea Cuius – who designed the amazing voice reactive lighting installation pictured above and below – each bulb was connected, coded and designed by them to react to a particular frequency of my voice (and who I found through Dean McNamee after he had an installation at THE HOSPITAL CLUB’s CiR event in March); High Tide Genesis Lab who developed the show at the baby stages (special thanks to Natalie Ibu); Anne Chmelewsky for her magical original music score; Prasanna Puwanarajah and Riz Ahmed for their delightful directing skills. Next stop – New York!

Please visit my website at www.sabrinamahfouz.com for up to date info on tickets and dates for Edinburgh (Underbelly, 4-28 August 2011).
