Think Shoot Distribute

Late last month, I was fortunate to be accepted onto the ‘Think Shoot Distribute’ programme, hosted by Atlantic FIlm Group, and was asked to write about the experience.

Inspiring. This was an intense week looking at all aspects of film production,

There were 25 attendees, split 50/50 Directors and Producers, the connection being that we’re all in the process of getting first features off the ground.

It was packed. First-time feature filmmakers shared their experiences, there were discussions with sales agents, distributors, financiers, UK Film Council development execs, story editors, discussions on audiences, line producing, production design, Casting Directors, Marketing, Legal and intellectual property. That’s about a third of it anyway…

There was always open discussion, and besides the seminars, it was fantastic being amongst such an eclectic, exciting bunch of contemporaries, from all backgrounds, tastes and approaches to film-making.

The best bits? For me, the things one doesn’t want to hear… the truths!!! The realities of getting your personal, cherished projects financed, distributed and marketed, from the people who do it. Disheartening facts and figures about the state of the industry, audience tastes, the business, all the dirty stuff. Doesn’t have to affect the creative of what you’re doing, but If you want to show the world something different, it helps to understand how it thinks first. helps you learn how to be more devious…

I’ll update this with some pics and other thoughts soon
