Things to do in London during June
1. Somerset House’s summer screenings
The film screenings take place inside the courtyard of the beautiful neo-classical building and are being hailed as one of the most popular outdoor film events. Films include Polanski’s ‘Chinatown’, Luc Besson’s ‘The Big Blue’, ‘Die Hard’, ‘Thelma & Louise’, ‘In the Mood for Love’ and ‘The Princess Bride’.
2. Royal Academy Summer Exhibition
The Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition brings art by established and emerging artists to their galleries.
3. Tracey Emin Exhibition, Hayward Gallery
Running through June and August this is your chance to view the work of celebrated and controversial contemporary artist Tracy Emin. The retrospective entitled “Love is what you want” will showcase work from throughout her career, works include those that challenge the themes of love, desperation, longing and anger.
4. Richard III at the Old Vic
Staring Kevin Spacey in the title role and running from the 18th June, this will be a must-see. Directed by Sam Mendes, Richard III is a reworking of Shakespeare’s play with the same title. Promised to be an incredible large scale performance to be enjoyed by all audiences.
5. Taste of London
Taste of London is running from the 16th – 19th June in Regents Park, the place where food is cool and the customers are cooler. London’s most acclaimed chefs hit the green to show you what good food tastes like.
6. Spitalfields Festival
The festival is running through June, with its eclectic mix of evening concerts and open air performances around the Spitalfields area. CiR10 Peter Gregson will be performing as part of the festival on the 14th June.
7. Open City: London Documentary Festival
Four days of film beginning on the 16th June, Open City is the place to hear the stories that matter.
“Stories that, all too often, remain untold: lives unrecognised, abuses ignored, follies forgotten, connections unrealised, joys uncelebrated. We need an occasion to celebrate the meeting of art and journalism that defines great documentary.”
8. E4 Udderbelly Festival
Why not spend a warm summer evening at the E4 Udderbelly Festival, hidden away on London’s Southbank is a secret garden where comedy, cabaret and theatre grace the outdoor stage. With a lovely bar serving drinks and food it is the perfect place to hide away from the summer sun.
