Day 7-8

Sun
27

‘Welcome to your City’ has been a weird, wonderful and hugely informative experience. From untouched wilderness to high-rise metropolis, our installation played out a mini-drama of urbanisation on full view to London’s busiest street. We were amazed by the enthusiasm of the public response and tested by the sheer number of people lining up to have a place in Wonderville made in their honour. After overseeing a population explosion from 1 to 1000, we quickly evacuated the city before a brutal demolition de-install. Out of the window and back in the real world now, we have gained another perspective on our creative practice that we look forward to taking on into forthcoming projects.
Many thanks to everyone who contributed and made Welcome to your City possible.

‘(…) Only when the architects from House of Jonn and aberrant architecture arrived on Day 2 did the rise of modernity begin and our shoebox cityscape start to take shape.

Since then the public response has been amazing. We’ve been inundated with comments and pictures and have been working overtime at the House of Jonn/aberrant office, visible through the Selfridges window, to build everyone who contributes into the ‘Wonderville’ development. (…) we’re thinking of building a broken down bus tour into our city. Then we’ll be back to the cutting board to keep up with the Wonderville population explosion.’

day 3 – Alex Shepherd’s pinhole camera installation

Sun

Alex Shepherd’s photography installation captures the life of Orchard’s street using pinhole cameras

‘A pinhole camera is a simple camera without a lens and with a single small aperture — effectively a light-proof shoebox with a small hole in one side.’

The result is pretty incredible…

The images are being processed a dark room that he set up in on of The Hospital CLub’s dressing room.

The city is growing, apartments are being built and taking over the forest. A few deers have been killed or ran away.

Alex Shepherd is runing with his homemade pinhole cameras from the windows to the hosptial club’s dark room….
